A time to reflect and be grateful

May 3, 2020 By Migglet (Edit)

Hello lovely Peeps, I hope this post finds you all well in these strange, scary & surreal times?

I know it is hard to comprehend what is going on in the world and many are finding it utterly impossible to get their heads around the current situation, let alone find their creative mojos.

I have had many weeks away from my easel for various reasons which is VERY unlike me but I am now starting to play once again, and have just painted and framed three original miniature bee paintings as little tokens of gratitude from me to 3 nominated NHS health workers who are working tirelessly while we live in our ‘comfort and safety bubbles’ at home during lockdown.

My marvellous HIM and I have spent many hours tending to our crazy terraced garden at the back of our house, and the sunshine has been most welcome here in Devon while we are in ‘stay at home’ mode and we both know just how lucky we are to live high up in this beautiful village overlooking the Teign Estuary and Dartmoor.

This is a part of our garden at the front of our house that we have rarely used before, I have been crocheting rainbows and stitching them to our little sumac tree, it’s become a lovely spot to wave to neighbours below and have a natter with a cup of tea!

Another little dancer who will be leaving me!

I am delighted to have just sold one of my latest pastel pieces, ‘Dress Rehearsal -Dancing Hibiscus’ to an ex-pupil of the same Ballet School I boarded at, although we weren’t there at the same time and have never met. Thanks to the wonders of the internet and my regular posts on my ‘ArtyMigglet’ Facebook page, her new owner discovered my little delicate Hibiscus drawing and she will shortly be dancing her way over to her new home in Australia and I am over the moon with our dance school connection!

Take care lovely peeps, stay safe, sending my love to you and ALL yours and I hope you will enjoy my arty journey which is once again heading off in different exciting directions, but I won’t ever get lost (sorry about that!?!) and will always follow my own Arty Migglet yellow brick road!!!

See you at the next roundabout, peeps!!

And DO PLEASE tell me what YOU have been up to during lockdown in the comments section below? I always love to hear from you all!

I’m still here!

Hello lovely people out there!

I have been meaning to write a quick newsletter for so many months! I do apologise for not keeping you all in the loop, but as always I am chasing my arty tail and not very good at catching it!

I have been exhibiting here and there locally this year (please keep an eye on my Exhibitions page here on my website * click on the drop down menu OTHER INFO* as I do try my absolute best to keep that page updated at least!)

Talking of which I was absolutely delighted to have some of my Original Paintings and Sculptures selected for the Greenhill Arts Winter Art Fair in Moretonhampstead which is now open until December 24th. (Open Wednesdays to Saturdays from 10am until 4pm)

Since my last newsletter (back when dinosaurs ruled the world!?!…and to be fair they were probably doing a much better job of it!) I have simply not stopped creating!

I use social media to keep my followers updated very regularly so please DO find me as ArtyMigglet on Facebook and/or Instagram if you wish to keep up with my creations, that really is the quickest and easiest way for you to keep up with me as I am still rather prolific! And it never ceases to amaze me how speedily some of my work ‘finds it’s new owner’!

I really do pinch myself at times, incredulous is probably the best word to describe the emotion I continue to feel having discovered this magical place I tend to live in called ‘ART’! I literally thrive on it and the fact that others seem to love my work too is still a thrill I just cannot explain!

I immerse myself in my paintings and sculptures, letting the world disappear, or maybe I am the one disappearing inside my creations? It is a safe, magical, carefree, imaginary world I escape to and I truly love it in there!

INTRODUCING………..

NEW WORK – SO NEW IT IS NOT EVEN ON MY SITE YET!

I have suddenly rekindled my passion for charcoal this week, especially Derwent XL Charcoal, they really are great chunks of gorgeousness in the hands! And my love of monochrome still holds me in it’s spell!

‘Little Doll’

One of my latest charcoal creations (not on my site yet as she is fresh from my easel)

This little darling was inspired by a thought–provoking photograph of a dear little soul tightly clutching a piece of wood she allegedly called ‘Nene’, her imaginary doll. Her expression hit me really hard, I wanted to say as much as I possibly could with that ‘look’ she is aiming at the viewer, as though we are looking deeply inside her thoughts.

I was inspired by the original image but as always let the work ‘come alive through me somehow’ and changed what felt right, I worked fast and loose too and loved the rawness of the result, the focus purely remaining on one eye, the window to her complex little soul.

‘Undress my soul’

This A2 charcoal piece has literally left my easel today! I worked REALLY quickly, I seem to have unleashed a new fast and loose vigour, it just seems to be the way I wish to work all of a sudden and I will let it flow and see where it goes!
I want to work out a way to preserve and protect my charcoal artwork without putting it behind glass as I just LOVE this raw purity and don’t want to ‘hide’ it, so wish me luck!

You know I don’t like to plan or do ‘test pieces’ spontaneity is my middle name! Aka ‘ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH! This simply HAS to work!’

Take care all of you and if you have just read through all this, thank you for still being there!

Much love,

Migglet x
