I’m still here!

November 15, 2022 By Migglet Leave a Comment

Hello lovely people out there!

I have been meaning to write a quick newsletter for so many months! I do apologise for not keeping you all in the loop, but as always I am chasing my arty tail and not very good at catching it! 🤣

I have been exhibiting here and there locally this year (please keep an eye on my Exhibitions page here on my website * click on the drop down menu OTHER INFO* as I do try my absolute best to keep that page updated at least!)

Talking of which I was absolutely delighted to have some of my Original Paintings and Sculptures selected for the Greenhill Arts Winter Art Fair in Moretonhampstead which is now open until December 24th. (Open Wednesdays to Saturdays from 10am until 4pm)

Since my last newsletter (back when dinosaurs ruled the world!?!…and to be fair they were probably doing a much better job of it!) I have simply not stopped creating!

Sculptured Spirits and Original Paintings have made their merry way to their new homes around the globe which always makes my little arty heart sing! I won’t show you all of them but here are just a few of my Sculptures that have ‘flown the nest’!

‘Hope is the thing with feathers’ Sculptured Tree Spirit SOLD 🔴

‘Horny Little Devil’ Sculptured Spirit SOLD 🔴
‘Young at Heart’ Sculptured Spirit SOLD 🔴

I have a few new Sculptured Spirits available to purchase, please do email me if you would like to see photographs!

I use social media to keep my followers updated very regularly so please DO find me as ArtyMigglet on Facebook and/or Instagram if you wish to keep up with my creations, that really is the quickest and easiest way for you to keep up with me as I am still rather prolific! And it never ceases to amaze me how speedily some of my work ‘finds it’s new owner’!

I really do pinch myself at times, incredulous is probably the best word to describe the emotion I continue to feel having discovered this magical place I tend to live in called ‘ART’! I literally thrive on it and the fact that others seem to love my work too is still a thrill I just cannot explain! 🥰

I immerse myself in my paintings and sculptures, letting the world disappear, or maybe I am the one disappearing inside my creations? It is a safe, magical, carefree, imaginary world I escape to and I truly love it in there!

INTRODUCING………..

NEW WORK – SO NEW IT IS NOT EVEN ON MY SITE YET!

I have suddenly rekindled my passion for charcoal this week, especially Derwent XL Charcoal, they really are great chunks of gorgeousness in the hands! And my love of monochrome still holds me in it’s spell!

‘Little Doll’

One of my latest charcoal creations (not on my site yet as she is fresh from my easel)

This little darling was inspired by a thought–provoking photograph of a dear little soul tightly clutching a piece of wood she allegedly called ‘Nene’, her imaginary doll. Her expression hit me really hard, I wanted to say as much as I possibly could with that ‘look’ she is aiming at the viewer, as though we are looking deeply inside her thoughts.

I was inspired by the original image but as always let the work ‘come alive through me somehow’ and changed what felt right, I worked fast and loose too and loved the rawness of the result, the focus purely remaining on one eye, the window to her complex little soul.

‘Fighting Spirit’

Another new Charcoal painting but this time working purely from my imagination. A fascinating process! Once again I worked quickly and loosely, she gradually appeared before me and I was astonished with her raw strength as she came through the charcoal!

‘Undress my soul’

This A2 charcoal piece has literally left my easel today! I worked REALLY quickly, I seem to have unleashed a new fast and loose vigour, it just seems to be the way I wish to work all of a sudden and I will let it flow and see where it goes!
I want to work out a way to preserve and protect my charcoal artwork without putting it behind glass as I just LOVE this raw purity and don’t want to ‘hide’ it, so wish me luck!

You know I don’t like to plan or do ‘test pieces’ spontaneity is my middle name! Aka ‘ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH! This simply HAS to work!’ 🤣

Take care all of you and if you have just read through all this, thank you for still being there!

Much love,

Migglet x

‘Sculptured Spirits’ – Figurative Sculptures by Migglet

December 17, 2021 By Migglet Leave a Comment

Individually unique mixed-media figures incorporating the natural beauty of wood.

I am overjoyed to announce that for many months I have been collaborating with my Marvellous HIM and having ‘launched’ them into the world this week, I am absolutely delighted to say that two of my Sculptured Spirits have already found their new homes! ❤️

‘Dancing Times’ – SOLD – ‘Sculptured Spirit’ created with watch parts and a wild imagination, dancing on a beautiful Purpleheart plinth, this rich purple is the wood’s natural colour.

Life is about challenging ourselves, learning, discovering, not playing it safe, and all of a sudden I wanted to have a go at a new way of creating more arty havoc in my home! (My poor HIM! He soon realised if he couldn’t beat me, he ‘wood’ simply HAVE to join me!!)

The bespoke hand-turned wooden plinths he creates for each of my figurative sculptures are simply superb and I love the way the natural grain adds an extra dimension and texture to each piece, showcasing my little figures in the most beautiful way.

‘The Red Shoes’ – Sculptured Spirit dancing on a bespoke hand-turned natural wooden Beech Plinth & housed within a glass dome.
‘The Red Shoes’ – rear view – I love the grain of the bespoke beechwood plinth, it appears to add more movement to this
little spirit.
‘Sailor’s Dream’ SOLD – A saucy little mermaid created on a piece of driftwood I found on Shaldon Beach. I was so delighted to sell this little lady only two days after ‘launching’ my Sculptured Spirits in the TAAG Teignmouth Christmas Art Exhibition.

I am creating ‘little spirits’ each with their own emotion. As with my drawing and painting ‘it’s a feeling’ I get when I create, and I am loving it large! To date there are 10 Sculptures, some of which are on driftwood from our local shores but most are on bespoke wooden plinths and housed within glass domes.

My individual 3D sculptures…hopefully contain the essence of life, ‘La Joi De Vivre’ that celebrates the fact that we are here and we ARE alive and kicking!

‘Papillon’ The smallest Sculptured Spirit dancing her little heart out on her hand-turned Oak plinth.
Small worlds living and ‘breathing’ on their own personal ‘stage’
‘Young at Heart’
I adore the bespoke hand-crafted laminated oak stand my marvellous HIM created for this little one’s swing to sit in, it is a sculpture in itself and houses her so perfectly!

These little spirits really are a labour of love and take me many many hours and many many days and many many processes to create. They are made initially of wire armatures and then I add a secret recipe of magic and imagination, a sprinkling of pure fantasy and voila!…my spirits are born. Each one represents just how fragile and delicate we appear, yet how strong we REALLY are within!

My sculpted spirits are delicate in appearance yet far stronger than they look and deliberately have parts that appear to be coming away or fraying, representing the way we have to ‘unravel’ in order to show who we really are, that we are all a little vulnerable and a little frayed around the edges.

‘Dance of the seven veils’

My little spirits aren’t going to be perfect, they aren’t smooth, they are ‘rough around the edges’ and are all imaginative, completely from my fuzzy little head so it is incredibly exciting for me to see them ’emerging’ into their own little characters as I create them….and as with the majority of my art, I do just love the way the eye and the soul can work out the parts that simply aren’t there.

I love the ‘weathered’ metal statue effect which has taken me so many hours to obtain. My sculpted, weathered little verdigris and rusty souls are all ‘pigments of my imagination’ and I love that! No rules! Anything goes! 🥳🥳

Over time we age and, try as we may, of course we cannot change that, but there is an honest beauty in how we ‘weather’ or age naturally in my opinion. The patina hues acquired through exposure to life are hues of raw beauty, the parts that ‘rust’ and maybe don’t work quite so well as they used to, yet are still there, whether they are visible to the eye or not.

‘Tiny Dancer’ – A Ballerina on a bespoke hand-turned natural wooden plinth made from Wenge. The second sculpture I made and I loved creating her ‘weathered statue’ patina effect. I wanted her to look as though she is antique and the rich dark Wenge wood showcases that beautifully, yet her spirit lives on!
‘Tiny Dancer’
‘A Quiet Moment’
‘A Bird in the Hand’
‘The Sugar Plum Fairy’ Showcased on the most beautiful Wellingtonia Plinth and housed within a glass dome.

My Sculptured Spirits are currently on display in the TAAG Christmas Art Exhibition in the Beachcomber opposite Teignmouth Pier. It is their first ever ‘outing’ and I am thrilled that they have been received so well!

I am lucky enough to have some incredibly special angels in my life and even though their rich patina is multi-coloured and maybe also tarnished with dark hues from wear and tear and the challenges that they have faced in life, their hearts of gold are most definitely visible in their kindness and actions and therefore in their spirits so I aim to show hints of that loving ‘golden glow’ here and there in my sculptures.

I have deliberately decided from the off that my little spirits need to be ‘raw’ and faceless, with all their imperfect knobbles and bobbles and wibbles and wobbles.

You may or may not be able to tell just how wibbly wobbly others are.

We humans are very accomplished at hiding our wobbles and I know that more than most, but we must somehow learn to embrace them, both the mental and the physical wobbles, because they are what we are ‘made of’ and we are made of fragments of our life experiences.

Lockdown and all the uncertainty has been such a terrible time for mental wobbles across the world and is still causing a great deal of anxiety on so many levels. I know what rock bottom feels like BUT I also know that weebles wobble but they won’t fall down!
Keep your spirit alive and kicking, my sculptures will be doing just that too!

As always, thank you for following me on my wibbly wobbly arty journey and for supporting me, please do leave a comment and let me know you are ok?

It IS OK not to be ok. The more we can all talk openly about our wobbles together, the straighter we will become!

So all of you lovely peeps out there, show me your ‘patina’ and be proud of every hue!! 🥳❤️

PS Due to events of the last year or so, it is a long time since I wrote a newsletter here on my site but of course I have been painting almost non-stop, my art and the support of my wonderful family and close friends will always get me through!

A time to reflect and be grateful

May 3, 2020 By Migglet 15 Comments

Hello lovely Peeps, I hope this post finds you all well in these strange, scary & surreal times?

I know it is hard to comprehend what is going on in the world and many are finding it utterly impossible to get their heads around the current situation, let alone find their creative mojos.

I have had many weeks away from my easel for various reasons which is VERY unlike me but I am now starting to play once again, and have just painted and framed three original miniature bee paintings as little tokens of gratitude from me to 3 nominated NHS health workers who are working tirelessly while we live in our ‘comfort and safety bubbles’ at home during lockdown.

Three framed wee bees all ready to be packaged and posted to the first 3 wonderful NHS health workers nominated by lovely peeps on my social media pages.
A tiddly thank you message, there really are no words adequate enough to say how grateful we are to the NHS, are there?!♥️ 🌈
Here’s to ALL our wonderful NHS ‘Worker Bees’! 🐝

My marvellous HIM and I have spent many hours tending to our crazy terraced garden at the back of our house, and the sunshine has been most welcome here in Devon while we are in ‘stay at home’ mode and we both know just how lucky we are to live high up in this beautiful village overlooking the Teign Estuary and Dartmoor.

This is a part of our garden at the front of our house that we have rarely used before, I have been crocheting rainbows and stitching them to our little sumac tree, it’s become a lovely spot to wave to neighbours below and have a natter with a cup of tea!
🌈🌳🌸

Another little dancer who will be leaving me!

I am delighted to have just sold one of my latest pastel pieces, ‘Dress Rehearsal -Dancing Hibiscus’ to an ex-pupil of the same Ballet School I boarded at, although we weren’t there at the same time and have never met. Thanks to the wonders of the internet and my regular posts on my ‘ArtyMigglet’ Facebook page, her new owner discovered my little delicate Hibiscus drawing and she will shortly be dancing her way over to her new home in Australia and I am over the moon with our dance school connection!

My marvellous HIM and I!

Talking of the wonders of the internet, my marvellous HIM and I have been extremely busy behind the scenes for the last few months creating and working on a very exciting new project and we are finally at the launching phase!! 🚀

I REALLY wanted other artists to have the opportunity be able to show their work online as beautifully and professionally as my marvellous HIM was able to do for me when he designed and created my Migglet site and by jove I think he’s done it!!

My HIM has many years of experience in web design and print and I DO love to encourage fellow artists & creatives, so we thought we would put our two enthusiastic wedded heads together and create a professional new website showcasing the work of Artists, Artisans & Photographers on their own personal web pages in order for them to shine!

And thus, our new ‘baby’…Art Showcase was born! 😃

We believe there are a great many talented amateur & professional artists, artisans, photographers etc who would dearly love their own website but for many reasons have never had the opportunity or time to get their work ‘out there’ and have been understandably fearful of the time and costs involved and/or simply terrified at the prospect of knowing where to start and what to do!

This is where we’ve done all the hard work for them!! 😃

Now more than ever is the time to be sharing our creativity with people to make them smile, feel happy, bring colour to their lives and warmth in their hearts! It IS a feeling and ALL creatives know how powerful that feeling can be, and if our work isn’t seen by others that emotion simply can’t be shared!

Please do visit our new site Artshowcase.co.uk and let others know about it too if you think they may be at all interested, wherever in the world they may be, our gallery of Showcases has grown since I started typing this Newsletter! I am awfully excited about our new venture and am babbling on about it quite a lot , can you tell?! 🤣😇🍾🥂

N.B. We are including free listings on the site for art societies, clubs, exhibitions and events once life gets back to ‘normal’ for us all too! Do please spread the word about that facility?!

P.S. You may notice that I, ArtyMigglet, have my very own Showcase Gallery on our shiny new site?!!….well, it would have been rude NOT to, wouldn’t it?! Oh the perks of being married to the Boss!!! 🤣🥳 😇

Today’s screenshot of the top of my Bio section on my Showcase Gallery 😃
Screenshot of a few of my paintings on my own Showcase Gallery

Take care lovely peeps, stay safe, sending my love to you and ALL yours and I hope you will enjoy my arty journey which is once again heading off in different exciting directions, but I won’t ever get lost (sorry about that!?!) and will always follow my own Arty Migglet yellow brick road!!! 😘

See you at the next roundabout, peeps!! 🚗

And DO PLEASE tell me what YOU have been up to during lockdown in the comments section below? I always love to hear from you all! 🥰

It’s a feeling and it simply takes over.

January 24, 2020 By Migglet 10 Comments

How do you describe the feeling when creating art? I honestly don’t know. I could babble on with oodles of adjectives and arty farty waffle but it simply IS a feeling and it comes in waves, whether they may be joyful waves or melancholy thoughts, art is always an emotional and very personal journey.

There are most definitely times when art is the only therapy, the heart seems to guide the brushes & the ‘place you are in’ at the time of creating is most evident in the work you produce.

I’m ignoring my imaginary art critics…

As always… ( yep, no change here!) …nothing is ever planned with my art, but one thing I DO know is that I am heading into 2020 with more clarity about my artwork than I had this time last year, and wherever ‘the feeling’ takes me, that’s where my creations will lie.

For me there is a fine line between sweating the small stuff in accuracy and fine detail whilst capturing that spontaneous feeling without overworking a piece. Leaving the viewer to fill in my work with their own imagination is something I seem to love doing best and it is so evident in all my latest pieces. I do genuinely believe that if you ENJOY your art, you will produce the best work you can possibly do, and who can ask for more of you than that?!

I know some of my creations are like marmite and you may either love them or loathe them but that’s fine with me, you don’t have to like all of it or any of it. I now finally feel confident that I am creating from within and the fact that some of you lovely peeps love some of my work enough to want to share it, support it and purchase it, still blows me away!

Hello 2020

A Troll is for life, not just for Christmas!

November 23, 2019 By Migglet Leave a Comment

Hello there Peeps! I know it is still only November but it’s no good pretending, I do need to let you know where I shall be exhibiting in December in case you wish to come and see me, or possibly to warn you where best to hide?! * I can seeeeeee yooooooou!!! 🤣

Believe it or not, as well as displaying some new Figurative Artwork, I am launching Trolls! Yes, Trolls! There will be low-flying Trolls of all shapes and sizes whizzing about in all directions and methinks they will take a fair amount of juggling skills to keep the little mischief-makers all in order. They have a nasty habit of trying to escape when I try to frame them behind glass and their language is atrocious! 😱

Salvador-Dali-TrollI think it is only fair to warn you that these ‘Trolls by Migglet’ really ARE breeding! I am not sure what has happened but the cheeky blighters are scuttling about all over the place and if I can catch them all, I am hopeful that others will find them as oddly compelling as me, and if so, I do hope you can cope with the addiction!

I may need help! But then again I may not! They seem to have unleashed the daftest, weirdest side of my imagination and I am having an absolutely marvellous time!
Inspired by my love of Vintage Toy Trolls as a child, this series, as with all my art, comes from the heart and my heart is NEVER going to be adult! I make NO apology for that!
* You WERE warned! 🤣🤪😘xx

See my Troll Art here!

If, however, I don’t get to see you in person before Christmas, please do have a WONDERFUL time and I shall be in touch some time in the New Year.

And thank you SO much as always for supporting me, reading my arty babble, sharing my work which I am so passionate about ( had you noticed?! ) and of course, thank you for purchasing from me too! Without everyone’s support I would be sitting here talking to myself and chasing Trolls…oh…hang on a minute!?! I AM!!!! 🤣😘
